Jiang Bin: First, I have an announcement to make.
In mid-to-late May, the China-Thailand "Strike-2026" Army Joint Training will be held in Thailand. This joint exercise focuses on mountain jungle joint counterterrorism operations, with both sides organized into mixed formations to conduct training in battlefield medical rescue, unmanned equipment operation, live-fire shooting, and other subjects. This is the 8th time the two countries' armies have held this series of joint exercises, aimed at continuously deepening bilateral friendship and cooperation and enhancing joint counterterrorism operational capabilities.
Reporter: Recently, Chairman Xi's reply letter to representatives of recipients of the May Fourth Medal for Chinese Youth and the New Era Youth Vanguard Award has generated a warm response throughout the armed forces. Please introduce the situation regarding the troops' study and implementation of the relevant content.
Jiang Bin: On the occasion of May Fourth Youth Day, Chairman Xi extended holiday greetings to young people of all ethnic groups across the country and expressed earnest hopes, urging young people broadly to cherish lofty ideals, dedicate themselves to hard struggle, integrate personal pursuits into the overall national development agenda, continuously create new achievements in their respective posts, and contribute the energy of youth on the new journey.
Troops throughout the armed forces have studied and implemented the spirit of Chairman Xi's important message in depth, carrying out Youth League Day activities in various forms, and through themed League study sessions, story sharing, and model reports, educating and guiding young officers and soldiers to unwaveringly heed the Party's words and follow the Party, striving to become good young people of the new era who have ideals, dare to take responsibility, can endure hardship, and are willing to work hard. Themed publicity activities focused on "dedicating youth to the country and striving to strengthen the military (青春报国、奋斗强军)" have been conducted, promoting the deeds and spirit of wholehearted loyalty to the Party and determined assault on difficulties, reflecting the new conduct and upright spirit (新风正气) that has emerged from the revolutionary tempering of the people's armed forces, and inspiring young officers and soldiers to bravely shoulder the responsibilities of the era with a renewed political bearing, carrying the mountain-like mission on their shoulders with the passion of youth. Inspired by Chairman Xi's message, the drive of the broad ranks of young officers and soldiers to work hard and achieve merit at their posts has surged even higher. From the snow-covered plateau to the distant seas and oceans, from the front lines of missions to exercise and training sites, from combat units to scientific research institutes, officers and soldiers are deepening their love of country and family, training hard to master the skills needed to win, remaining battle-ready at their posts defending the homeland, pressing forward on the journey of dedicated military strengthening, inheriting the red gene through concrete actions, and displaying the vitality of youth.
Wherever the motherland needs, that is the most brilliant stage for youth; when dreams resonate in harmony with military strengthening, that is the most beautiful movement of youth. Young officers and soldiers will deeply comprehend Chairman Xi's earnest instructions, practice their original aspirations with their youthful selves, shoulder their mission with their striving selves, and write a new chapter of military strengthening and national rejuvenation worthy of the era and worthy of their youth.

Reporter: According to reports, with the induction of multiple new types of combat aircraft, the People's Navy has successfully assembled the complete "carrier five-piece set (航母五件套)" — stealth carrier-based fighters, multi-role catapult carrier-based fighters, fixed-wing carrier-based early warning aircraft, fixed-wing electronic warfare aircraft, and anti-submarine helicopters. What is your comment on this?
Jiang Bin: Thank you for your attention to the development and construction of the Chinese Navy. Regarding what the media calls the "carrier five-piece set," this is an important component in forming the carrier battle group's system-of-systems operational capability (体系作战能力), and also an important achievement of the People's Navy's accelerated transformation and development. Building a powerful People's Navy embodies the generations-long aspiration of the Chinese nation to look seaward and grow strong, and is an important guarantee for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Entering the new era, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission, and Chairman Xi, the pace of modernization of the People's Navy has become ever more firm and powerful. From the air to underwater, from coastal waters to the open ocean, the types and functions of various weapons platforms have been continuously improved, achieving leapfrog development and innovative breakthroughs, providing stronger guarantees for defending national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The Chinese Navy has always upheld the concept of a maritime community with a shared future (海洋命运共同体). Whether in Gulf of Aden escort missions, international humanitarian relief, or hospital ships carrying out "Harmonious Mission (和谐使命)" tasks, practice has proven that a powerful Chinese Navy is always an anchor of peace and a bridge of cooperation for the world. We are willing to work together with the navies of all countries, standing together through thick and thin and cooperating sincerely, to make new and greater contributions to maintaining maritime security and world peace.
Reporter: According to reports, the lead boat of the "Qilin"-class conventional submarine built by China for Pakistan was delivered in Sanya, with Pakistan's president, chief of naval staff, and other senior military and political officials attending the delivery ceremony. What is your comment on this?
Jiang Bin: This is normal equipment cooperation between China and Pakistan, and a vivid embodiment of the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two countries' leaders, bilateral relations have continuously reached new heights and achieved new results. The two militaries have stood by each other through thick and thin (肝胆相照) and supported one another over the years, with fruitful cooperation in strategic communication, joint exercises and training, personnel training, and equipment and technology, playing an important role in safeguarding the security of both countries and regional peace and stability. Going forward, the two militaries will continue to consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation in all areas, and contribute to building an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future and to promoting world peace and development.

Reporter: According to reports, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently visited Australia and Vietnam, strengthening security cooperation with the relevant countries and proposing a so-called new version of the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" concept. Takaichi has also been clamoring that Japan's constitution, drafted by the U.S. occupation forces after World War II, should be periodically updated to reflect the demands of the times. What is your comment on this?
Jiang Bin: We resolutely oppose the Japanese ruling authorities' use of the so-called banners of "freedom and openness" and "security cooperation" to stoke bloc confrontation, build "small cliques (小圈子)," harm other countries' strategic security and interests, and seek pretexts and breakthroughs for loosening their own military constraints.
May 3 of this year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trials. Over the past 80 years, Japanese right-wing forces have schemed relentlessly to dilute and resist the solemn verdict that represents the conscience of humanity and the justice of history, distorting and denying the crimes of aggression committed by Japanese militarism as recorded in black and white. Class-A war criminals who committed monstrous crimes are enshrined and venerated as "heroes" at Yasukuni Shrine. The Japanese government's position of "upholding the peace constitution and following the path of a peaceful nation" has gone from explicit commitment to paying lip service while acting otherwise, and now to the Takaichi government openly pushing for constitutional revision. Japanese right-wing forces are step by step tearing off their disguise, shifting from covert military expansion to open war preparation. The real threat posed by Japan's "new-style militarism (新型军国主义)" to regional peace is becoming increasingly apparent.
Wanting peace rather than conflict, wanting cooperation rather than confrontation — these are the true demands of the present era. We urge the Japanese ruling authorities to stop their hypocritical self-promotion and dangerous ambitions of military expansion and war preparation, and to genuinely demonstrate an attitude of squarely facing history and take sincere actions of remorseful atonement, so as to earn the trust of Asian neighbors and the international community.
Reporter: According to reports, the Japanese Defense Minister and the Philippine Defense Secretary issued a joint statement declaring opposition to any "unilateral attempt to change the status quo in the East China Sea and South China Sea by force or coercion," and expressing serious concern over China's "dangerous coercion" in the vicinity of Japan and the Philippines. The two sides will also strengthen defense cooperation in areas including equipment and technology and information sharing. What is your comment on this?
Jiang Bin: Certain politicians in Japan and the Philippines are hyping up false narratives on maritime issues and smearing China without cause. We are strongly dissatisfied with and resolutely oppose this. The relevant parties, disregarding the common desire of regional countries for peace and development, and ignoring the opposition of their own people, are strengthening military collusion to pursue private interests and exacerbating regional tensions. Japan has dispatched troops to participate in joint exercises and for the first time fired offensive missiles outside its own territory, deliberately breaking through the principle of "exclusively defensive defense (専守防衛)," while the Philippines attempts to bring in extra-regional forces to back up its rights-infringing actions and then tries to turn the tables on China — this is a complete miscalculation. The Chinese military's resolve to defend its own territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests is unwavering. We urge the relevant countries to stop forming cliques and engaging in bloc confrontation, and to do more things that are truly conducive to regional peace and stability.
Reporter: According to reports, the PLA recently organized naval and air forces to conduct joint combat readiness patrols (联合战备警巡) around Taiwan Island, with main combat vessel formations entering the waters southwest of the Penghu Islands. Some analysts believe that the increase in the number of PLA vessels and aircraft crossing the "strait median line (海峡中线)" may be related to recent visits abroad by senior Taiwan officials. What is your comment on this?
Jiang Bin: Taiwan is a part of China, and the so-called "strait median line" simply does not exist. The PLA's conduct of military operations in the relevant areas is entirely justified and reasonable. "Taiwan independence" is the chief culprit destroying peace in the Taiwan Strait. We will absolutely not condone it, and will absolutely not tolerate it (决不姑息、决不容忍). The PLA will continue to resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity through concrete actions, and resolutely safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
