PLA Daily News — May 29 of this year marks the 24th International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. Officers and soldiers of China's peacekeeping forces employed a variety of means to participate in or conduct commemorative activities for the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, honoring through concrete action their solemn pledge to safeguard world peace.
On May 29 local time, China's 16th Peacekeeping Engineer Detachment and Medical Detachment to South Sudan (Wau) participated in commemorative activities for the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers organized by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Western Sector. Together with peacekeeping officers and soldiers from multiple troop-contributing countries, they held a moment of silence to honor peacekeeping personnel who gave their lives in the cause of peace.
During the event, the head of the UNMISS Western Sector summarized the phased peacekeeping work and spoke highly of the Chinese peacekeeping forces, noting that since their deployment to the mission area they have shown no fear of hardship, shouldered heavy responsibilities, and efficiently completed tasks including supply route repair, camp infrastructure construction, medical patrols, and emergency medical evacuation of casualties, providing a solid guarantee for the orderly advancement of all peacekeeping work.
On May 29 local time, officers and soldiers of China's 3rd Peacekeeping Quick Reaction Detachment to Abyei held a oath-taking ceremony to commemorate the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
At the oath-taking ceremony, all officers and soldiers solemnly took their oath facing the Five-Starred Red Flag and the United Nations flag. The detachment's officers and soldiers revisited their original aspiration and mission of going abroad to serve the nation and safeguard peace, further consolidating the fighting will to fulfill their duties and hold the front line.
After the ceremony, the detachment's officers and soldiers proceeded to their mission area to conduct routine armed patrols. In response to the actual conditions of the mission area, the detachment employed a combination of vehicle patrols and foot patrols to inspect the main roads and residential areas of the mission area, rigorously investigating potential conflict hazards and protecting the safety of local civilians.
