The CMC Logistic Support Department's clothing and equipment support organ, working through Joint Logistic Support Center subordinate organs, piloted 'frontline clothing and equipment field stores' at three training bases—including Zhurihe Joint Training Base—between May and October of this year, shifting uniform and gear resupply from rear warehouses to exercise sites and adding on-site repair services. The concrete problem this addresses is 'difficulty replenishing missing equipment' during field training, a logistics gap that persisted under the older passive-issuance model. The article documents an incremental but institutionally deliberate push to move PLA sustainment functions forward in the support chain, fitting the broader 以战领建 pattern of restructuring rear-echelon functions around field-exercise tempo rather than garrison schedules.

Our Military Explores New Model of Clothing and Equipment Support Oriented Toward Combat

PLA Daily Report by Liu Junxiang and reporter Sun Xingwei: Some time ago, officers and soldiers stationed for training at the Zhurihe Joint Training Base were pleasantly surprised to find a newly opened temporary "frontline clothing and equipment field store (战地被装超市)" operating in an orderly fashion. This is a microcosm of our military's exploration of a combat-oriented (向战为战) model for clothing and equipment support, and a practical measure by clothing and equipment support departments at all levels to serve combat readiness.

Addressing the practical difficulties of clothing and equipment support during field training exercises, the clothing and equipment support department of the Central Military Commission Logistic Support Department, on the basis of in-depth research, moved support forward from rear warehouses to the front lines of exercises and training. From May to October of this year, led by the organs of the relevant Joint Logistic Support Centers, temporary "frontline clothing and equipment field stores" were piloted for the first time at three training bases including Zhurihe, opening requisition services centered on training and operations clothing, undergarments, and cold-weather and thermal clothing that are in high demand among task forces.

The establishment of clothing and equipment stores at training grounds effectively resolved the problem of "difficulty replenishing missing equipment (缺装难补)" during field training. They dynamically adjusted stocked items according to the phase of exercises and training—supplementing training shoes and boots during periods of high training intensity, and increasing cold-weather and thermal clothing when temperatures dropped—achieving the goal of "providing whatever the troops need." Clothing repair and mending services were simultaneously carried out to ensure officers and soldiers enter combat training and readiness preparation in good condition.

It is understood that in recent years, the military-wide clothing and equipment support system has adhered to the principle of letting warfare lead construction (以战领建) and being oriented toward combat (向战为战), continuously optimizing support models, and progressively implementing precise support through "demand-based requisition and precision delivery (依需申领、精准配送)," allowing officers and soldiers to select and order equipment as needed through a platform. Specialized activities such as "clothing and equipment services going to the grassroots (被装服务走基层)" and "frontline clothing and equipment accompanying support (战地被装伴随保障)" have been organized to accelerate the transformation of clothing and equipment support toward a combat-oriented (打仗型) model.

From "passive issuance" to "active service," from "wearing whatever is issued" to "replenishing whatever is lacking," the new clothing and equipment support model is a vivid embodiment of the CMC organs and clothing and equipment support departments at all levels supporting for war and serving to win. It is understood that in the next phase, relevant departments will gradually expand the accompanying support (伴随保障) model for clothing and equipment based on pilot results, providing stronger support for troops' combat training and readiness preparation.
