A base under the Naval Aviation University at Qingdao completed roughly two months of recruit training since mid-March, implementing three changes to its standard model: one-on-one junior-instructor mentorship for swimming broken into six progressive stages, corridor-mounted pull-up bars to exploit fragmented time, and digital radar-chart displays tracking six fitness dimensions per recruit. In the early days of summer, a gentle breeze stirs ripples across the Baisha River wetlands in Qingdao. Distant mountains emerge and fade in the haze; morning sunlight scatters soft reflections across the water, and birds pass overhead from time to time — a scene like an ink-wash painting alive with birdsong and flowing waves. On the riverbank, at the training ground of a base under the Naval Aviation University, a burst of resounding chants shatters the morning stillness. Recruits, spirits high and footsteps crisp, run toward the rising sun.

Since mid-March, the recruits have been training here for more than two months. Weathered by wind and sun, tumbling through the dirt, young and tender faces have been tempered into steel within the camouflage barracks, embarking on the journey from civilian youth to qualified servicemember——

How to conduct training that closely matches recruits' actual conditions is a question that new-recruit training units think carefully about every year. This year, the unit confronted head-on the pain points and difficulties in the traditional training organization model — insufficient training precision, inadequate motivation, constraints of venue and time, and gaps in mentorship coverage — and boldly innovated its training organization model, effectively breaking through training bottlenecks.

Precision Training: One-on-One Mentorship

Swimming is a basic skill for every naval officer and enlisted member, and it is also a major "stumbling block" in recruit training.

High technical demands, rigorous standards, and pronounced reluctance among recruits… Swimming has long been one of the most difficult and challenging subjects in recruit training. To consolidate the training foundation, standardize the teaching process, and improve the training-organization capability of cadre, the base organized all cadre to conduct special training before the training cycle began, breaking swimming instruction down into six progressive stages: land movements, preparatory activities, water familiarization, arm-and-leg breakdown drills, full-stroke coordination, and comprehensive reinforcement.

During training, new-recruit cadre organized training in a step-by-step, scientifically structured manner, following the sequence of land before water, breakdown before full stroke, and fundamentals before intensive reinforcement.

The unit also introduced a junior instructor one-on-one mentorship mechanism, transforming broad-brush guidance into fine-grained mentorship, combining collective instruction with individualized coaching to ensure that every recruit received precise guidance and efficient improvement.

Recruit Ding Junxin, from Chongqing, is slight in build and introverted by nature. A childhood experience of falling into water and choking left him with a fear of water. During swimming training, he would always deliberately hang back at the rear of the formation, reluctant to enter the water.

Throughout the training process, new-recruit cadre kept close watch on every detail and corrected errors hands-on; Ding Junxin gritted his teeth and broke through his psychological barrier, overcame his fear, and pressed forward, practicing repeatedly in the pool. He went from being afraid to enter the water, to mastering floating and breathing exchanges, to independently swimming 25 meters and then 50 meters. In just two weeks, he successfully shed the label of "landlubber" and passed the 100-meter qualification assessment.

Recruit Li Zhuohang has a strong, muscular build, but his physical coordination is relatively poor. Before enlisting, he had taught himself to swim, but his technique was non-standard — his stroke efficiency was low and his breathing rhythm was somewhat erratic.

As the saying goes, sharpening the axe does not delay the chopping of wood. After enlisting, to help him correct his technique, new-recruit cadre Lu Qingzhu first led him through repeated land-based practice of swimming movements, standardizing arm stroke, leg kick-and-squeeze, and breathing rhythm one by one, and correcting the bad habits he had previously developed. After entering the water, cadre corrected his technical details one by one: during the arm pull, emphasis was placed on keeping the arms straight, precise entry angle, and full catch-and-push power; during the kick, the requirements were slow leg recovery, rapid foot flip, and a continuous, powerful kick-and-squeeze; during breathing, the head rotation was to be natural, inhalation short and efficient, and breath-holding steady and sustained. With professional guidance, Li Zhuohang voluntarily stayed in the pool for extra practice, refining his technical details one by one.

After a period of solid training, his movements became increasingly standard and fluid, his stroke efficient and effortless; he could easily complete 100 meters, and his training confidence and motivation improved markedly.

Relying on this refined training model, new-recruit cadre, grounded in each recruit's individual characteristics and weak points, taught in accordance with individual aptitude (因材施教) and applied precision training — carefully polishing technical movement details while also helping recruits work hard on physical fitness — breaking through personal limits and filling gaps in military physical training. After several months of effort, the recruits not only overcame the difficulties of swimming training and strengthened their physical conditioning, but also forged the strength of will to face difficulties without fear and press forward in the face of adversity, laying a solid foundation for subsequent military training.

Moving the Venue Forward: Ready to Train Anytime

The horizontal bar pull-up is a "hard bone" in recruit physical fitness training, and it constrains improvements in fitness scores and overall training levels.

As a measure of comprehensive upper-body, back, and core strength, pull-ups place relatively high demands on physical conditioning, movement standards, and muscular strength. In the past, this base — like most new-recruit training units — conducted horizontal bar training concentrated on outdoor parade grounds, subject to significant constraints of time, venue, and weather. Recruits practiced infrequently, with long intervals and poor continuity, making it difficult to form stable muscle memory, and score improvements were slow.

This year, the base uniformly installed horizontal bars on every floor of the barracks, extending pull-up training from outdoors to indoors, bringing equipment into the corridors, and providing recruits with convenient conditions to train their fitness and build their capabilities anytime and anywhere.

During class breaks, after lunch, before lights-out, and other fragmented moments of time, the silhouettes of new comrades doing pull-ups can be seen throughout the corridors. Everyone proactively uses every spare moment to train, gradually building upper-body strength, standardizing movement fundamentals, finding the right sense of muscle engagement, and forming muscle memory. The continuity and systematicity of recruits' pull-up training improved significantly, and scores climbed steadily.

Recruit Xiong Fupeng, 19 years old, is somewhat overweight. Before enlisting, he favored snacks, lacked exercise, and had weak upper-body strength. At the start of training, Xiong Fupeng was at a complete loss when faced with the horizontal bar — after gripping the bar, his body would drop, his arms going soft and trembling; he could not even hang for 10 seconds, let alone generate the force to pull himself up.

After horizontal bars were installed throughout the indoors, the training equipment visible everywhere in the corridors gave him far more training opportunities. Under the guidance of new-recruit cadre, he started with foundational assistance exercises such as Australian pull-ups and kipping swings, using the fragmented time after meals, between classes, and before sleep to train consistently. At the same time, he persisted in push-ups, dumbbell curls, and other exercises to strengthen his upper-body. Two weeks later, he was able to pull himself up with the help of resistance bands — and felt tremendously excited.

Day after day of persistence left calluses on his hands and frequent soreness in his arms, yet he never spoke lightly of giving up. One month later, he could independently complete 5 pull-ups… Xiong Fupeng, who once feared the horizontal bar, now proactively charges toward higher training targets.

Recruit Zheng Tianwen is slight and small in stature, with insufficient upper-body strength; at the start he could not generate the force to complete even a single standard pull-up.

New-recruit cadre had him begin with grip strengtheners and sustained bar hangs, using resistance bands to support his body for assisted pull-up training, developing a feel for latissimus dorsi engagement, and gradually reducing the assistance as he transitioned toward completing pull-ups independently.

After more than a month of hard training, not only are his movements standard and correct, but his arm muscles have become firm, and his whole bearing has grown increasingly upright.

Sweat more on the training ground, bleed less on the battlefield. Squad leader Yang Zhi remarked: "Ever since horizontal bars were added in the corridors, recruits have more training opportunities, their motivation has strengthened, and everyone's progress has been quite remarkable."

Installing horizontal bars indoors not only resolved the problems of venue and time constraints, insufficient pull-up frequency, and slow score improvement, but also cultivated in recruits the good habits of seizing every available moment, training hard, and persisting with determination, laying a solid foundation for comprehensively improving physical fitness and consolidating the training base.

Digital Empowerment: Growth Made Visible

Entering the gate of the base's student company, digital training display boards stand out prominently. A light tap on the screen brings the entire squad's training status into view at a glance. Opening an individual profile, each trainee's scores across all subjects and their strengths and weaknesses are precisely displayed; opening a single subject, the full roster's scores and growth curves are clearly visible — truly achieving full traceability of the training process, quantification of training outcomes, and precise identification of training weak points.

This is the "smart hub" of recruit physical fitness training, enabling recruit physical fitness training to leave behind the rough-and-ready era of "going by experience and feel" and enter the scientific stage of "relying on data and emphasizing precision."

A hexagonal capability radar chart quantitatively displays each recruit across six dimensions: 3,000-meter run, pull-ups, parallel bar dips, sit-up crunches, breaststroke, and treading water. Like leveling up in a game, every breakthrough and every step of progress in training is intuitively visible here, and training results are converted into clearly visible capability graphics. Recruits, seeing and feeling their own growth, gain a sense of achievement and gradually shift from "I'm made to train" to "I want to train."

The bitterness of training accompanies the sweetness of growth. College-student recruit Zhang Xuanming looked at his hexagonal radar chart, almost entirely contracted toward the center, and felt considerable anxiety. New-recruit cadre, using the digital training display boards, compared his training data horizontally against his fellow recruits in the same cohort and tracked his personal growth curve longitudinally, identifying three weak points — insufficient endurance, weak upper-body strength, and below-average cardiopulmonary function — and tailored for him a "progressive, daily micro-improvement" enhancement plan:

The 3,000-meter run starts with short-distance interval running, with the number of interval sets gradually increasing, building aerobic endurance over middle and long distances through intensified speed training; using resistance band assistance, he first conducts regressed pull-up training, gradually mastering the correct way to generate force; crunches are performed in sets, with the count slowly increasing… After each day's training ends, Zhang Xuanming stops in front of the digital display board, carefully checks the day's data, and keeps close watch on changes in the weak areas of his radar chart.

After more than a month of gritting his teeth and persisting, his 3,000-meter run time improved from 15 minutes to 12 minutes 40 seconds, his horizontal bar pull-ups broke through from 0 to 8, his crunches stabilized at more than 60, and his swimming score rose to "good." Looking at his increasingly full radar chart, Zhang Xuanming's training drive grew stronger still.

The data-driven training model makes the training process more controllable, methods more scientific, and outcomes more precise, effectively stimulating recruits' training potential and ensuring training benefits are maximized. This year, the student company's overall recruit training progress advanced 1–2 weeks ahead of the same period last year, the excellent-and-good rate improved by 10–15%, training precision improved significantly, and training quality achieved a leap forward.

Instructor squad leader Wang Chaowei remarked with deep feeling: "Today, our recruit training has completely left behind the old routine of 'going by experience, by impression, by feel,' and has fully shifted to the model of 'relying on data, analysis, and science.' We can precisely lock onto recruits' weak areas and bottleneck subjects, and target-specifically formulate supplementary training plans; the relevance and effectiveness of training have improved substantially."

Precision mentorship for efficient training promotion, forward venue positioning for normalized intensive training, and digital empowerment for precision training delivery — these three approaches have become the key to this unit's stimulation of training vitality and improvement of training quality and effectiveness. On May 25, in a physical fitness spot-check organized by higher authorities, the 3,000-meter run achieved an excellent-and-good rating across the board, the swimming excellent-and-good rate exceeded 90%, and the pull-up excellent-and-good rate approached 90%… A series of innovative measures have taken root and borne fruit, making recruit training at this base more scientific and effective.

白沙河畔的“士兵突击” ■李承天 辛 越 韩 朝 该基地在训练间隙开展小竞赛、小比武,锻炼新兵体能。图为双人趣味俯卧撑训练。 午饭前,新兵在楼道里进行引体向上训练。杨凯歌摄 初夏时节的青岛白沙河湿地,微风过处,水波荡漾。远处的山,若隐若现,朝阳洒落,河面泛着柔光,时不时有鸟儿飞过,宛如一幅鸟鸣波漾的水墨画。河畔,海军航空大学某基地的训练场上,一阵嘹亮的口号声划破了清晨的宁静,新兵们士气高昂、脚步清脆,迎着朝阳奔跑。 从3月中旬开始,新兵们已在这里训练两月有余。风吹日晒、摸爬滚打,一张张稚嫩的脸庞,在迷彩军营中淬火成钢,开启从地方青年到一名合格军人的成长之路—— 如何紧贴新兵的实际情况开展训练,是新训单位每年都在认真思考的问题。今年该单位直面传统组训模式中训练不够精准、动力激发不足、场地时间受限、帮带覆盖不细等痛点和难点问题,大胆创新组训模式,有效破解训练瓶颈。 精准施训 一对一帮带 游泳,是每一名海军官兵的基本功,也是新兵训练的一大“拦路虎”。 专业性强、标准要求高、新兵畏难情绪突出……一直以来,游泳都是新兵训练的重难点课目。为夯实训练基础、规范教学流程、提升骨干组训能力,开训前,该基地组织全体骨干开展专题培训,将游泳教学拆解为陆地动作、准备活动、熟悉水性、臂腿分解、完整配合、综合强化6个阶段,递进开展。 训练中,新训骨干循序渐进、科学组训,按先陆地后水中、先分解后完整、先基础后强化的顺序来组织训练。 该单位还推出小教员一对一帮带机制,把粗放式指导转变为精细化帮带,采用集体授课与个性化辅导相结合的方式,确保每名新兵得到精准指导、高效提升。 来自重庆的新兵丁君鑫身材偏瘦、性格腼腆内向。童年落水呛水的经历,让他产生了对水的恐惧。游泳训练时,他总是刻意躲在队伍后方,迟迟不愿下水。 训练过程中,新训骨干紧盯每一个细节、手把手纠正偏差;丁君鑫也咬牙突破心理防线,克服恐惧迎难而上,在泳池里反复练习。他从最初不敢下水,到熟练掌握漂浮换气,再到独立游进25米、50米。短短两周时间,他顺利摆脱了“旱鸭子”的标签,顺利通过100米达标考核。 新兵李卓航身材健硕、肌肉发达,但身体的协调性相对较差。入伍前,他曾自学游泳,但动作不规范,不仅划水效率低下,而且换气节奏也有点混乱。 俗话说,磨刀不误砍柴工。入伍后,为了帮助他纠正动作,新训骨干路庆祝先带领他在陆地反复练习游泳的动作,逐一规范手臂划水、腿部蹬夹、换气节奏,纠正他此前养成的错误习惯。入水后,再逐一对他的动作细节进行纠正:划臂时强调手臂伸直、入水角度精准、抱水推水发力充分,蹬腿时明确收腿缓慢、翻脚迅速、蹬夹连贯有力,换气时要求头部转动自然、吸气短促高效、憋气平稳绵长。有了专业的指导,李卓航主动留在泳池加练,逐一打磨技术细节。 经过一段时间的扎实训练后,他的动作愈发标准流畅、划水高效省力,能轻松完成100米游进,训练信心与积极性大幅提升。 依托精细化的训练模式,新训骨干立足每名新兵的自身特点和短板弱项,因材施教、精准施训,既认真打磨技术动作细节,也助力新兵苦练体能,在军事体育训练中突破自我、补齐短板。经过几个月的努力,新兵们不仅攻克了游泳训练难关,强化了身体素质,更锤炼了不畏困难、迎难而上的意志品质,为后续军事训练打下了坚实基础。 场地前移 随时能开练 单杠引体向上,是新兵体能训练时的一块“硬骨头”,也制约着体能成绩和综合训练水平的提升。 作为上肢、背部、核心力量等综合能力的体现,引体向上对身体素质、动作规范、肌肉力量的要求相对较高。以往,该基地和大多数新训单位一样,进行单杠训练常集中在室外操场,受时间、场地和天气的限制比较大,新兵练习频次低、间隔长、连续性差,难以形成稳定的肌肉记忆,成绩提升慢。 今年,该基地在每层楼统一加装单杠,将单杠训练由室外延伸至室内,让器材进楼道,为新兵随时随地练体能、强素质提供了便利条件。 课间休息、午饭后、熄灯前等碎片时间,楼道中随处可见新战友拉单杠的身影。大家主动利用点滴时间进行训练,逐步增强上肢力量、规范动作要领、找准发力感觉、形成肌肉记忆。新兵引体向上训练的连续性、系统性显著增强,成绩也稳步攀升。 19岁的新兵熊缚鹏身材偏胖,入伍前偏爱零食、缺乏锻炼,上肢力量薄弱。训练之初,熊缚鹏面对单杠可谓一筹莫展,双手抓杠后身体下坠、手臂发软颤抖,别说发力上拉,就连悬挂10秒都很难坚持。 室内单杠全面布设后,楼道里随处可见的训练器材,让他有了更多的训练机会。在新训骨干的指导下,他从基础的澳式引体、摆浪等辅助训练做起,利用饭后、课间、睡前的碎片时间坚持训练。同时,他坚持练习俯卧撑、哑铃弯举等强化上肢力量。两周后,他能借助弹力带将自己拉起来了,感到非常兴奋。 在一天又一天的坚持中,他手上磨出茧子、手臂时常酸痛,却从不轻言放弃。一个月后,他能独立完成5个引体向上……曾经畏惧单杠的熊缚鹏,如今主动向着更高的训练目标发起冲击。 新兵郑添文体型瘦小,上肢力量不足,刚开始难以发力,连一个标准引体向上都无法完成。 新训骨干让他从握力器、坚持吊杠等训练起步,借助弹力带托举身体开展辅助引体向上训练,体会背阔肌发力技巧,逐步减少辅助力度,向独立完成引体向上过渡。 历经一个多月刻苦训练,他不仅动作标准规范,手臂肌肉也变得结实起来,整个人身姿愈发挺拔。 训练场上多流汗,战场上才能少流血。区队长杨志表示:“自从楼道里增加了单杠之后,新兵们训练的机会增多,积极性增强,大家的进步相当明显。” 室内加装单杠,不仅解决了场地时间限制、练杠频次不足、成绩提升慢等问题,更让新兵养成见缝插针、刻苦训练、持之以恒的良好习惯,为全面提升体能素质、夯实训练根基奠定坚实基础。 数字赋能 成长看得见 走进该基地学兵队的大门,一块块数字化训练门牌格外醒目。轻点屏幕,全班训练态势一目了然。点开个人界面,每名学员各课目成绩、强弱项精准呈现;点开单一课目,全员成绩、增长曲线清晰可见,真正实现训练过程全程追溯、训练成效数据量化、训练短板精准定位。 这是新兵体能训练的“智慧中枢”,让新兵体能训练告别“凭经验、靠感觉”的粗放时代,迈入“靠数据、重精准”的科学阶段。 一个六边形能力雷达图,将每名新兵3000米跑、引体向上、双杠臂屈伸、仰卧卷腹、蛙泳、踩水6个维度量化展示。如同闯关升级,训练中的每一次突破、每一个进步都在这里直观可见,训练成果转化为清晰可见的能力图形。新兵在看得见、摸得着的成长中,收获成就感,逐步从“要我练”转变为“我要练”。 训练的苦,伴随着成长的甜。大学生新兵张轩鸣看着自己的六边形雷达图几乎全部蜷缩在中心区域,内心颇为焦急。新训骨干依托数字化训练门牌,将他的训练数据横向对比同批次战友、纵向追踪个人成长曲线,标注出耐力不足、上肢力量薄弱、心肺功能偏弱等3个短板,为他定制了“循序渐进、每日微进步”提升计划—— 3000米跑从短距离间歇跑起步,间歇组数逐步增加,通过强化速度训练,提升中长距离的有氧耐力;通过弹力带辅助,先进行引体向上的退阶训练,逐渐掌握正确的发力方式;卷腹分组进行训练,慢慢增加数量……每天训练结束后,张轩鸣都会驻足数字门牌前,认真核对当日数据,紧盯雷达图弱项变化。 历经一个多月的咬牙坚持,他的3000米跑成绩从15分钟提升至12分40秒,单杠引体向上从0个突破到8个,卷腹稳定达到60个以上,游泳成绩也跃升至良好。看着自己愈发饱满的雷达图,张轩鸣的训练劲头更足了。 数据驱动训练模式,让训练过程更可控、方法更科学、效果更精准,有效激发新兵训练潜力,确保训练效益最大化。今年,该学兵队新兵训练整体进度同比提前1~2周,优良率提升10%~15%,训练精准度显著增强,训练质量实现了飞跃。 教练班长王朝伟深有感触地说:“如今,我们进行新兵训练彻底告别‘凭经验、凭印象、凭感觉’的老套路,全面转向‘靠数据、靠分析、靠科学’的模式。我们能精准锁定新兵的薄弱环节和瓶颈课目,靶向制订辅助训练方案,训练针对性、实效性大幅提升。” 精准帮带高效促训,场地前移常态强训,数字赋能精准施训,这3招成为该单位激发训练活力、提升训练质效的关键。5月25日,在上级组织的体能抽考中,3000米跑全员优良、游泳优良率超90%、引体向上优良率近90%……一系列创新举措落地见效、开花结果,让该基地新兵训练更科学高效。
