An Army Comprehensive Training Base Upholds the Concept of Scientific Training

An Army comprehensive training base in northern Guangxi has implemented a tiered, data-driven recruit rotation schedule (轮训表) that coordinates simultaneous training across tactical, physical, and weapons areas, achieving a 19-percent rise in pull-up excellence rates, a 13-percent rise in live-fire shooting excellence rates, and a 21-percent drop in training injuries. The article documents the institutional push to replace undifferentiated mass-formation training with individualized, data-tracked methods — framed explicitly as a response to higher quality-and-effectiveness demands on recruit training under current conditions. The framing of 科学施训理念 (scientific training concept) as a command-level directive, not just a unit initiative, points to pressure from above to systematize these methods across the recruit pipeline, though the base's name, its parent formation, and how widely the rotation schedule has been adopted elsewhere remain unspecified.

In early summer in northern Guangxi, as the first light of dawn broke, multiple training subjects were simultaneously underway on the training grounds of an Army comprehensive training base — On the eastern side, in the tactical training area, dozens of new recruits crawled in the low-crawl position, repeatedly alternating between drawing in their legs and extending their arms, dust billowing in their wake; on the western side, in the grenade-throwing training area, grenades flew like arrows loosed from a bow, tracing parabolic arcs of varying heights through the air; in the central physical fitness training area, several new recruits with stronger physical conditioning took turns on the bar, conducting weighted pull-up training… The head of the base's training department told reporters that the different training subjects are coordinated in an orderly fashion, like "playing the piano," and behind this lies a scientifically precise "rotation schedule" driving efficient coordination.

"The quality and effectiveness requirements for recruit training are higher than ever, forcing us to find every possible way to innovate our training organization model," remarked Squad Leader Yang Jingjiao, who has extensive experience organizing training. He noted that the old, extensive approach of "throwing everything in one pot and marching in lockstep" can no longer meet the demands of scientific and efficient military training under the new situation.

"This 'rotation schedule' is our 'secret formula' for breaking through training difficulties and improving the quality and effectiveness of training organization," said Battalion Commander Yang of a certain battalion at the base, pointing to a chart in his hand as he introduced it to reporters. The chart — scientifically coordinated by the base's headquarters and precisely refined at the battalion and company levels — meticulously plans the training duration, venue requirements, and rotation sequence for different subjects, dynamically groups recruits according to their training level, and specifies the training plan down to every day, every hour, and every training area.

Battalion Commander Yang pointed to the chart and gave reporters an example: "For instance, during Tuesday's basic tactical movement training, the remedial group repeatedly refines their movements in the 20-meter basic crawl area, the reinforcement group works on movement fluency in the standard tactical field, and the elite group pushes their limits on a comprehensive course with obstacles set up. The same subject, taught in differentiated tiers, with each group training according to its needs." Battalion Commander Yang said this is precisely the core concept the "rotation schedule" upholds: tiered instruction for foundational subjects, and concentrated breakthroughs for key and difficult subjects.

How does a single schedule achieve "precision"? In the grenade-throwing training area, reporters observed that instructor Weng Shouyuan stood at the edge of the training ground, recording the data from each throw in a small notebook. "Data doesn't lie. Through continuous tracking and statistical analysis, I have categorized common problems into three types: 'insufficient lower-limb power storage,' 'disconnection between torso rotation and force generation,' and 'lack of force at the point of release,' and I have developed dedicated training strategies for each." Weng Shouyuan told reporters that, using training data as his basis, he developed training aids such as a kneeling-position grenade-throw assist device, made targeted improvements to training methods, and significantly increased training efficiency.

The role of data was equally evident in the live-fire shooting area. The moment the gunfire ceased, recruits came before the intelligent target-reporting system, where Platoon Commander Quan Qingquan pointed to a clear distribution map of bullet impact points, precisely analyzed the problems of each recruit, and put forward targeted recommendations for improvement. The widespread use of informatized and intelligentized (信息化、智能化) equipment has consigned the traditionally time-consuming and low-efficiency practice of "aiming with an empty gun" to history, providing solid technical support for the efficient operation of the "rotation schedule" and for scientific training.

A 19-percent increase in the excellence rate for bar pull-ups, a 13-percent increase in the excellence rate for live-fire shooting, and a 21-percent decrease in the rate of training injuries — these hard figures are the encouraging results that the base has achieved through its exploration and implementation of the "rotation schedule."

"The 'rotation schedule' is only the vehicle; scientific military training is the goal," said the base's leadership. They stated that in the next phase, they will continue to implement the concept of scientific training (科学施训理念) and, with stricter standards and more scientific methods, deliver a steady stream of qualified combat personnel (合格战斗员) to the force.
