Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 Beijing Xiangshan Forum Held in Beijing
PLA Daily, Beijing, May 8 — Reported by correspondents Lü Desheng and Xie Fei: The opening ceremony of the preparatory meeting for the 2026 Beijing Xiangshan Forum was held in Beijing on the morning of May 8, with more than 120 guests in attendance, including official representatives, experts, and scholars from more than 40 countries and international organizations.
The meeting was held under the theme "Global Security Governance: Challenges and the Way Forward" and featured four roundtable discussions: "International Order and the Rule of International Law," "New Challenges to Asia-Pacific Security," "Responsibility for Safeguarding International Common Security," and "Risk Management of Military Applications of Emerging Technologies." The meeting is designed to serve a forward-looking and preparatory function, laying the groundwork for the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum planned for this autumn. Participants engaged in joint discussion of security issues and deliberated on approaches to peace, contributing their insights toward building a more just and equitable global governance system.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum. At the special thematic exchange session held that afternoon — "The Role of International Forums in Global Security Governance: Special Session Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum" — participants jointly reviewed the 20-year development of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, explored the distinctive value of international security forums in promoting equal dialogue, building consensus, and resolving differences, and sought viable paths toward advancing international security dialogue and deepening sustained cooperation.
