Sea winds howling, waves crashing against the shore. Several "Wild Horse" air-cushion vessels roared in and moored at an island pier belonging to a naval detachment of the Eastern Theater Command Navy, whereupon a multi-vessel fuel replenishment training exercise immediately got underway.
On the pier, officers and soldiers who had received the training order sprinted to the sides of the vessels. As the fuel transfer line was being connected to the receiving port, an operator aboard one vessel suddenly reported: "The gasket on the refueling hose does not match." Faced with the emergency, support personnel responded calmly and swiftly replaced the gasket with a matching one. Click! A crisp sound of metal engagement rang out as the fuel transfer line locked on precisely. At the same time, the fuel laboratory completed its sampling and screening. "Data qualified — start the pump!" At the command, fuel surged through the lines and gurgled steadily into the air-cushion vessels' fuel tanks.
Just as the replenishment operation was proceeding at full intensity, an urgent order suddenly came over the intercom from the commander: "Fuel tank compartment leaking — emergency repairs!" The repair team's officers and soldiers moved the instant the order was given, grabbing their specialized tools and rushing to the fuel tank compartment at speed. After a careful on-site inspection, they quickly pinpointed the leak. Closing the valve, releasing pressure, tightening the fitting… as the pressure gauge needle climbed steadily, the fuel supply system returned to normal.
"Number-three tank breather valve malfunction — abnormal air pressure!" The exercise control group (导调组) introduced a new contingency on the spot. The repair personnel divided responsibilities clearly and coordinated closely: removing the valve, replacing the valve core, calibrating the pressure… movements swift and precise, with no wasted motion. The fault was cleared and fuel flow through the lines returned to normal velocity. Fuel output stabilized, and the fuel tank levels aboard each vessel rose steadily.
"Replenishment complete — withdraw!" The fuel troops quickly gathered their equipment and coiled up the recovered lines. The air-cushion vessels roared to life once more, pulled away from their berths in sequence, and headed out toward the training waters.
