Situational Drama "Echoes on the Banks of the Dadu River" Staged to Thunderous Response in Ya'an, Sichuan
The Lan River surges on without cease, and the red flame is passed down from generation to generation. Recently, the original situational drama (情景剧) "Echoes on the Banks of the Dadu River," based on the true deeds of a duty company (执勤某中队) of the Ya'an Detachment of the People's Armed Police Sichuan General Corps in carrying forward the spirit of the Long March and loyally guarding the peace of mountains and rivers, was brilliantly staged in Ya'an. As a vivid vehicle and important component of the People's Armed Police Force's "Hero's Road · New Long March" (英雄路·新长征) propaganda, education, and cultural activity, the situational drama is divided into four chapters — "Sound of the Waves" (涛声), "Forcing the Crossing" (强渡), "Marching into Danger" (逆行), and "Echoes" (回响) — with a gripping plot and sincere, full-bodied emotion, making red history tangible and perceptible and stories of strengthening the military (强军故事) strike directly at the heart.
The situational drama takes as its main thread a dialogue across time and space spanning 91 years, linking the momentous years of the Red Army's forced crossing of the Dadu River with the mission and responsibility of People's Armed Police officers and soldiers in the new era. Through sincere and moving performances, it vividly recreates the unceasing red inheritance on the banks of the Dadu River, delivering to the audience present a cultural feast combining historical depth, spiritual warmth, and the power of youth. The audience was deeply moved by the iron-blooded loyal spirit of revolutionary forebears and the youthful sense of duty of officers and soldiers in the new era, and the applause at the scene was prolonged and unceasing.
"Carry forward the bloodline of the Red Army, forge the responsibility to win battles, firmly cast the bedrock of loyalty, and continue to write the glory of the era!" At the conclusion of the performance, the "Dadu River Company" (大渡河连) of a brigade of the Army's 74th Group Army and the officers and soldiers of the 4th Duty Company (执勤四中队) of the Ya'an Detachment of the People's Armed Police conducted a dialogue across time and space, jointly completing the relay inheritance of the Red Army spirit.
"Playing the role of Wang Lei was a profound spiritual baptism for me," soldier Chen Dehao said candidly in an interview. "Every conversation and every detail in the drama is the true daily life of our company's officers and soldiers. We hope that through our performance, people can see the steadfast watch kept by sentinels deep in the mountains, and understand the eternal founding aspiration of Chinese soldiers to put the people first and life first (人民至上、生命至上)."
Playwright and lead actor Wang Kangfeng shared in an interview the original intent behind the drama's creation: "Throughout the entire situational drama, we use the sound of the Dadu River's waves to link the revolutionary epic of the Red Army's 17 heroes forcing the crossing of the perilous obstacle with the true deeds of People's Armed Police officers and soldiers holding fast to their posts and advancing toward danger. We hope that through immersive stage art, we can open a spiritual channel between history and the present, allowing audiences to clearly see that the spirit of the Long March is a faith and strength passed down from generation to generation without cease, and moreover is the spiritual foundation that enables our officers and soldiers of the new era to take root at their posts, loyally fulfill their duties, and bear responsibility for the people."
The situational drama was also simultaneously broadcast live to the entire military via the "Xuexi Qiangjun" (学习强军) client. It is understood that the duty company of the Ya'an Detachment of the People's Armed Police is permanently stationed in the reservoir area of the Dagangshan Hydropower Station. In recent years, the company's officers and soldiers have deeply cultivated the red soil, carried forward the spirit of the Long March, properly handled more than 20 major emergencies, and successfully completed various tasks including duty security, emergency response, and disaster relief operations.
