A Rocket Force Brigade Conducts "Look-Back" Reviews to Write the "Next Chapter" in Serving the Grassroots
"Ever since the partition doors were installed in the barracks phone room, chatting with family feels so much more comfortable." Recently, at the entrance to a barracks phone room in a Rocket Force brigade, Staff Sergeant First Class Han Wei was all smiles after finishing a call with his family. He told reporters: "The partition doors block the line of sight, but they bring soldiers' hearts closer — and they reflect the organization's care and the transformation in the working style of the headquarters organs."
This heartwarming change is a vivid illustration of the brigade party committee's commitment to upholding a correct view of political achievements (正确政绩观) and improving the quality and effectiveness of service to officers and soldiers.
Last year, headquarters organ cadres discovered during research visits that officers and soldiers at a certain mission post were unable to use smartphones due to the local environment and other factors, and therefore could not make video calls with their families. Because mission assignments at that post lasted a considerable length of time, many officers and soldiers hoped the problem could be resolved as soon as possible. After careful deliberation, the brigade party committee decided to install video phones at the mission post, on the premise of ensuring classified information security. Before long, eight barracks phone rooms were established at frontline grassroots units, drawing widespread praise from officers and soldiers.
Good things take time. This year, since the launch of the study and education campaign on establishing and practicing a correct view of political achievements (正确政绩观), the brigade party committee has advanced study, inspection, and rectification in an integrated manner, taking concrete service to the grassroots as the breakthrough point, making vigorous efforts to correct deviations in the view of political achievements, and organizing headquarters organ cadres to go deep into frontline grassroots units to conduct "look-back" (回头看) reviews. What Section Chief Zheng of the headquarters organs saw at the mission post gave him a jolt: it was rest time, and the barracks phone room — which he had expected to be bustling — was quiet and deserted, with some equipment even covered in a layer of dust.
With questions in mind, Section Chief Zheng immediately organized a forum with grassroots officer and soldier representatives and found the reason: "The phone room has no partitions. Sometimes you have to make calls face-to-face with your comrades, which is very awkward."
After one round of "look-back" reviews, many headquarters organ cadres encountered similar "half-finished project" (半截子工程) problems. "When headquarters organs do practical things, they must do them in a way that truly reaches the hearts of officers and soldiers — they must write the 'next chapter' of follow-through and accountability." The brigade's leadership told reporters that recently they have carefully studied and implemented the spirit of Chairman Xi's important speech at the rally commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, gained a deep understanding of the pronounced problem-oriented approach and profound people-centered feelings (为民情怀) embodied in Xi Jinping's thought on Party building, and — in conjunction with the study and education campaign — carefully sorted through the problems collected during the "look-back" reviews, organized party committee members and headquarters organ cadres to conduct in-depth reflection and analysis, and vigorously rectified the tendency toward hollow, detached, and sloppy (虚、飘、粗) approaches in the process of serving the grassroots.
At the same time, the brigade has actively established a closed-loop mechanism of "precise matching of needs, multi-party review of projects, routine supervision of progress, and follow-up verification of results," ensuring that good things are truly done well and practical matters are truly handled in a practical way.
Today, the partition doors installed one by one in the barracks phone rooms ensure the privacy of officers' and soldiers' calls. More and more officers and soldiers are walking into the phone rooms to make video calls with their families, sharing interesting moments from daily life and unburdening their hearts. "When the organization sincerely resolves difficulties, officers and soldiers devote their whole hearts to preparing for war. Now people have fewer nagging problems, their morale is smoother, and their drive is stronger." A cadre from one of the brigade's battalions gave voice to the feelings of grassroots officers and soldiers.
As the study and education campaign continues to deepen, the brigade party committee leadership and headquarters organ cadres are proactively going to the frontline to listen to soldiers' voices, building credibility through the moving of timber (徙木立信) by resolving real problems, and winning the trust of officers and soldiers and establishing their image and authority through solid, tangible work results.
