Defense Minister Dong Jun met Timorese Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão in Dili on August 19, during an invited visit, with both sides committing to deepen bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation and advance military-to-military relations. The meeting documents China's ongoing effort to cultivate defense ties with Timor-Leste, a small state whose strategic position in the Timor Sea and unresolved relationships with Australia and the United States make it a meaningful target for PLA engagement; what specific defense cooperation deliverables, if any, were agreed remains unstated in this readout.

On August 19, during his invited visit to Timor-Leste, Minister of National Defense Dong Jun held talks with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão. The two sides conducted an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral and military-to-military relations, the international and regional situation, and issues of mutual concern, and expressed their intention to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders, deepen bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation, and advance military-to-military relations to a higher level. Prior to the talks, the Timorese side held a welcoming ceremony for Dong Jun.
