A company of the PAP Gansu Corps Mobile Detachment, designated a 'National Advanced Unit for Mass Sports,' organizes physical training around individualized fitness profiles, tiered instruction (分层施训), and a structured coaching corps, with Staff Sergeant Second Class Hou Wenxiang cited as a model coach across eleven years of service; the unit recently completed a cross-regional mobile standby mission (跨区机动备勤任务) that the article frames as validation of the training system. This is standard PAP unit-level physical training promotion content; its value is as a baseline record of how the Gansu Corps Mobile Detachment institutionalizes coaching development and links fitness training to mobile standby readiness, not as evidence of a capability shift or changed operational posture.

"National Advanced Unit for Mass Sports" — A Certain Company of the People's Armed Police Gansu Corps Mobile Detachment: Demanding Combat Effectiveness from Scientific Training

■ Zhu Weiyu, Wang Yuan

In the heart of the Longyuan region, windswept and sun-drenched.

During physical fitness training hours, the sound of cadence calls echoes through the barracks. On the training ground of a certain company of the People's Armed Police (PAP) Gansu Corps Mobile Detachment, officers and soldiers sprint on the track, exert themselves on the apparatus field, and vault through obstacles…

As a mobile unit, the company carries out a wide variety of missions and must be ready at all times to respond to emergencies. Superior physical fitness is the foundation for completing all tasks to a high standard.

Precision-based training (精准施训) is the company's foremost principle in organizing military physical training. Their outstanding military sports training results earned them the designation of "National Advanced Unit for Mass Sports."

"Extend both arms straight upward, keep the arms straight, sink the shoulders and feel the back muscles engage." On the apparatus field, Private First Class Jiang Pengfei practices pull-ups under the guidance of Squad Leader Li Dongzhe. "One more rep, hold on!" Li Dongzhe's voice rings in his ear, and Jiang Pengfei grits his teeth, the veins in his arms standing out.

Incorrect force application had long held back Jiang Pengfei's pull-up performance. Li Dongzhe helped him correct his form through decomposed training Combined with adjustments to breathing rhythm and reinforcement of force-application technique, after more than a month of effort, Jiang Pengfei finally broke through his bottleneck and distinguished himself among soldiers of the same enlistment year.

Military physical training cannot be approached with a one-size-fits-all method. The company builds individual training profiles for each officer and soldier based on data covering physical fitness, weak points, and adaptable training intensity, achieving one plan per person and tiered training delivery (分层施训), ensuring that "precision" runs through the entire military physical training process.

In the company, there are many officers and soldiers like Jiang Pengfei who have improved their physical fitness through targeted training. Sergeant Zhu Menghuan's insufficient endurance was affecting his five-kilometer armed cross-country results, so his squad leader tailored a long-distance running and load-bearing training plan for him. Corporal Zhao Shuxuan had slower-than-average reaction times during training, and military sports cadre guided him through shuttle runs and agility ladder training to improve his coordination and reaction speed.

"Arm swing must be fluid, and the push-off must be forceful. Demonstration movements must be both standard and precise, and the key points must be explained clearly so that comrades can understand!" Not long ago, during a company-organized instructional session on the 400-meter obstacle course event, military sports coach and Staff Sergeant Second Class Hou Wenxiang corrected the training movements of the organizing cadre one by one. Nearby, the cadre listened attentively, repeatedly imitated the movements, and took notes and exchanged insights from time to time.

A strong coaching corps is the key to raising the overall training level. Hou Wenxiang is a prime example within the company's coaching team. In eleven years of service, he has mastered the training methods for every military sports event. After becoming a coach, he has devoted himself to military sports instruction and accumulated extensive experience in organizing training. He breaks down complex events into a tiered instructional process of "foundational movements + progressive training + error correction," integrating the concepts of scientific training organization and precision-guided instruction into the entire training process, driving comprehensive improvement in officers' and soldiers' physical fitness and combat skills.

In recent years, the company has regularly organized concentrated training sessions for military sports coaches, inviting professional cadre and training experts to provide on-site instruction covering topics such as scientific training organization methods, sports rehabilitation knowledge, and training injury prevention. The company also organizes coaching skills competitions, with assessment content including lesson plan writing, event demonstration, and on-site training organization, allowing coaches to identify gaps, address weaknesses, and build capability through competition.

Today, the company has built a military sports coaching corps that is well-structured and of high caliber. Whether in basic physical fitness or combat-oriented events, the coaches are proficient in instructional procedures and capable of accurately imparting military sports skills.

The effectiveness of military physical training must be tested in actual operations. Demanding combat effectiveness from military physical training must be reflected in mission execution.

Not long ago, the company carried out a cross-regional mobile standby mission Facing an unfamiliar environment, officers and soldiers relied on the solid physical fitness and practical combat skills forged through daily training to successfully complete all tasks, including assembly and security operations.

"The core objective of military physical training is to forge the ability to fight and win; training divorced from actual combat is meaningless." Company Commander Shi Xufeng explained that the company consistently integrates basic physical fitness training with actual combat requirements, with targeted reinforcement of training events such as load-bearing transport and endurance assault. At the same time, drawing on the characteristics of missions such as mobile standby and field garrison training, the company routinely conducts coordinated training to forge officers' and soldiers' capacity for division of labor, cooperation, and efficient joint action, ensuring that every element of military physical training can be converted into actual combat capability.

From precision policy implementation, to talent development, to combat effectiveness enhancement, the company has forged a path of military physical training that is grounded in grassroots realities and focused on combat readiness.
