PLA Garrison in Macao Holds Reception Celebrating the 99th Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army
On the morning of July 31, the People's Liberation Army Garrison in Macao held a reception at the Taipa Barracks to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The guests of honor were: He Houhua, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region; Zheng Xincong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Bian Lixin, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Major General Chen Wensheng, Commander of the Macao Garrison, and Major General Lian Wei, Political Commissar of the Macao Garrison; and Zheng Yongchun, President of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
Major General Lian Wei, Political Commissar of the Macao Garrison, presided over the reception. At 10:30 a.m., accompanied by the solemn strains of the "March of the Chinese People's Liberation Army," the reception formally commenced. At the event, Macao Garrison Commander Major General Chen Wensheng and Macao SAR Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai each delivered remarks. The reception concluded with guests from all sectors joining together to view a photo exhibition commemorating the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army.
In his remarks, Garrison Commander Chen Wensheng warmly recalled the glorious journey traveled by the people's army under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and its historic contributions to national rejuvenation, reviewed the Macao Garrison's fulfillment of its defense duties over the 27 years since its stationing, and expressed gratitude for the long-standing care and support extended to the garrison by the SAR government and all sectors of Macao society.
Chen Wensheng stated that since stationing, the Macao Garrison has strictly implemented the "one country, two systems" principle, the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, and the Garrison Law; has maintained a firm grip on political development and combat readiness training; has carried forward the tradition of loving Macao and being close to the people; has lawfully fulfilled its defense duties; and has played the important role of a "stabilizing anchor" (定海神针) for safeguarding Macao's prosperity and stability, earning widespread praise from Macao compatriots. The Macao Garrison will thoroughly implement the spirit of Chairman Xi's important instructions during his inspection of the garrison, ground its work in the construction tasks of the opening phase of the 15th Five-Year Plan, anchor its war-preparedness efforts to achieving the centenary goal of the armed forces, continuously consolidate its foundational development and enhance its defense capabilities, take root in the Hao River and safeguard Macao's long-term peace and stability, and strive to be loyal guardians in whom the Party, the people, and Macao compatriots can place their trust and confidence.
In her remarks, Macao SAR Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai extended festival congratulations to the officers and soldiers of the Macao Garrison and expressed gratitude for the garrison's sustained and strong support for the SAR's development.
Approximately 200 guests from all sectors attended the reception by invitation, including principal officials of the Macao SAR Government; heads of central government agencies stationed in Macao and mainland Chinese-funded institutions in Macao; National People's Congress deputies and CPPCC members from the Macao delegation; student representatives from universities and previous military summer camps; and Macao patriotic and Macao-loving organizations.
