A PLAN task group comprising the training ship Qi Jiguang and the Type 071 amphibious transport dock Kunlunshan will make a port call at Surabaya, Indonesia in early August, announced by MND spokesperson Senior Colonel Jiang Bin at the July 30 press conference. The pairing of a training ship with a large amphibious vessel is worth noting: Qi Jiguang routinely conducts cadet cruises, but Kunlunshan's inclusion extends the visit beyond a standard goodwill call and fits a pattern of Indonesia-China naval engagement that has expanded to include joint exercises in recent years.
