In 2014, at Gutian in western Fujian, Chairman Xi Jinping personally decided to convene the All-Army Political Work Conference there. "I proposed holding the All-Army Political Work Conference at Gutian in order to trace our roots to their source, restore fundamentals to their proper place, and draw new insights from reviewing the past." Two years ago, at Yan'an in northern Shaanxi, at the Central Military Commission Political Work Conference, Chairman Xi Jinping clearly put forward the strategy of building the military through politics (政治建军方略) for the new era, emphasizing the need to "carry forward the spirit of thorough self-revolution (彻底的自我革命精神) and continuously deepen political rectification training (政治整训)."
