China honors military computer scientist for contributions despite disability

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- China has awarded military computer scientist Wang Ji the honorary title of "Role Model of the Times" (时代楷模), recognizing his contributions to defense technology and his perseverance in the face of severe illness. Wang, born in 1969, is a researcher at the College of Computer Science and Technology of the National University of Defense Technology (国防科技大学). For years, Wang has worked on the front line of military research and education. Leading his research team, he helped develop theoretical frameworks and key technologies for highly dependable software (高可信软件), contributing to the safety and reliability of critical software used in a number of major defense systems. Despite undergoing an amputation after a serious illness, Wang has continued his research with determination, producing a series of innovations that have reached internationally advanced standards. He has also trained a new generation of specialists in highly dependable software technologies. The award recognizes Wang as an outstanding representative of China's military educators and researchers and highlights his commitment to scientific innovation, talent development and national defense. Military personnel were called on to learn from Wang's dedication as China advances the modernization of its armed forces and works toward its goal of building a world-class military (世界一流军队).
