A brigade of the Northern Theater Command Navy used decades-old architectural blueprints stored in its archive room to diagnose structural unknowns in aging barracks and observation-communications station (观通站) facilities, enabling renovations that had stalled for years—including one where new-type equipment had sat without adequate storage for four years. "The rebar specifications used to pour the load-bearing walls back then were recorded clearly in the margins of the blueprint. It's thanks to you bringing those old archives to our door to 'diagnose the problem' that this old building has been given a new lease on life." Recently, Wang Yang, an engineer with a certain brigade of the Northern Theater Command Navy, received a phone call of thanks from a battalion commander. On the other end of the line, the newly renovated multipurpose building had passed its completion inspection and was about to be officially put into use.

Behind that phone call of thanks, a blueprint stored for decades not only gave a building "nearly half a century old" a new life, but also triggered a profound transformation within the brigade regarding ideological work style and support models.

This "nearly half-century-old" barracks building had lost its architectural blueprints, leaving the routing of concealed pipelines and the layout of the main load-bearing structure a complete mystery. The renovation plan went through multiple revisions, repeatedly caught between "can't be changed" and "dare not change." At a loss for what to do, the battalion learned that the unit which had originally designed and built the barracks had, through multiple reorganizations and transfers, become a certain brigade of the Northern Theater Command Navy.

Holding onto a slim hope, they came to the door seeking help. The brigade's leadership immediately arranged for engineer Wang Yang to serve as the point of contact. He retrieved design blueprints that had been gathering dust for decades, verified parameters one by one, supplemented data gaps through on-site surveys, and scientifically formulated a renovation plan. The old building was thus completely transformed.

The urgent matter was resolved, but the brigade Party committee's reflection did not stop there. In conjunction with deepening political rectification training (政治整训), they analyzed and examined themselves: passively "waiting for people to come to the door" reflects ideological laxity; proactively "bringing services to the door" is the true measure of responsibility and action. Blueprint archives are not merely static technical heritage—they are living combat-power resources that must be thoroughly understood. And more pressing than the technical baseline is the ideological baseline and the work-style baseline (思想底数和作风底数)—only by purging the inertia of "waiting, relying, and demanding" (等靠要) and establishing the self-discipline of "taking the initiative" can one truly achieve the synchronized resonance (同频共振) of support capability and combat power.

An initiative to optimize the support model through ideological rectification (思想整风) quietly got underway. The brigade formed a technical services task force, divided responsibility by geographic area, and—drawing on the vast collection of architectural design blueprints stored in the blueprint archive room—conducted "physical examination–style" screening of aging barracks buildings and military facilities one by one: comparing building service lifespans, investigating structural aging risks, and cataloguing functional shortfalls. They proactively visited units to flag hidden hazards and simultaneously provided full-chain technical support from plan design through on-site construction.

Task force member Wang Lei, while reviewing the design blueprints for a certain observation and communications station (观通站), discovered a generational gap between the original construction standards of the station's equipment storage building and the storage requirements of new-type equipment. He immediately traveled to the site to investigate and learned that four years earlier the station had initiated a plan to field new equipment, but the renovation project had been repeatedly delayed due to three compounding bottlenecks: substandard warehouse conditions, unclear structural design, and the harsh construction environment on the island. New-type equipment had long been left with "hardware but no home." After identifying the root causes, Wang Lei quickly studied the technical and tactical parameters of the new equipment, scientifically revised the renovation plan in light of on-site hydrological and geological conditions, and saw it through from blueprint verification to construction completion. The new-type equipment was successfully installed, and combat readiness support effectiveness achieved a leap forward.

At the project summary meeting, Wang Lei candidly noted that the station's predicament was by no means an isolated case. As new-quality combat capabilities (新质战斗力) accelerate in their development, many older storage buildings constructed in earlier years have become increasingly unable to match the operational requirements of new-type equipment in terms of floor space, protection standards, and pipeline capacity. The structural contradiction of "new equipment waiting for new warehouses" is growing ever more pronounced.

The brigade Party committee used this as a mirror for further reflection, focusing sharply on the salient contradiction of "aging facilities constraining the release of new equipment's effectiveness," and conducting a thorough examination of whether the "load-bearing walls" (承重墙) of ideological work style were sound: Is there inertia of "guarding one's own turf" (守摊子)? Is there dependence on "waiting for orders" (等指令)? Is there buck-passing born of "fear of accountability" (怕担责)? Is there an attitude of "none of my business" toward other units' combat power development?...

The deeper the rectification training went, the more resolute the action became. Using the design blueprints preserved in the blueprint archive room as a data foundation, they kept a close eye on the usage scenarios of new-type equipment, precisely coordinated with each unit, and clarified renovation requirements and technical pathways item by item. At the same time, they proactively moved the safety checkpoint forward, systematically studying the damage characteristics of typical structures and modern battlefield strike patterns, conducting deductions simulating actual combat conditions such as fragment penetration and artillery blast impact, and going through walls, pipelines, load-bearing components, and other protective shortfalls structure by structure and item by item, compiling categorized facility upgrade lists and renovation recommendations.

Engineer Liu Xinmei, while leading the technical feasibility review for a unit's equipment storage building renovation, repeatedly deduced more than ten damage scenarios against the original blueprints, precisely identifying deep-seated vulnerabilities including weak exterior wall protection and insufficient blast resistance of supporting pipelines. After the rectification plan was implemented, the building's efficiency in transitioning between peacetime and wartime modes improved substantially, and the goal of "capable support in peacetime, able to withstand the test in wartime" was preliminarily achieved.

One old blueprint activated incremental gains in combat power and also illuminated the shortfalls and the reshaping of ideological work style. Drawing on the original parameters of different types of structures and the patterns of battlefield damage, they compiled categorized Standardized Wartime Emergency Repair and Construction Plans (《标准化战时抢修抢建方案》), progressively improving contingency plan reserves and driving the transformation of the support model from "experience-led" to "data-driven." The brigade's leadership told the reporter: "Blueprints are not history sitting in a cabinet—they are the basis for supporting future victory. Political rectification training (政治整训) is not an exercise in abstraction; it must be applied to every concrete matter. Understanding history thoroughly, doing the present work meticulously, and planning for tomorrow with rigor—that is the duty we must fulfill."
