To Study Joint Operations Knowledge, They Set the Classroom on the Battlefield Where Their Predecessors Once Charged
Army Arms University Nanjing Campus Organizes On-Site Instruction — Beachhead Positions Serve as Classroom
PLA Daily report by Li Qiangyun and special correspondent Yang Kaiming: "The Yijiangshan Island Campaign was the first joint operation in our military's history involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Under the cover of air, ground, and naval fires, the landing force executed assault landings from multiple landing points…" Recently, the Army Arms University Nanjing Campus organized more than one hundred students to travel to Yijiangshan Island, where on-site instruction was conducted at the beachhead positions where the landing force once charged. Instructors led students in reviewing the combat deeds of their predecessors and, on location, analyzed against historical battle records the influence of the geographic environment on amphibious landing operations.
"Setting the classroom on the battlefield of those years not only allows students to understand operational thinking in the actual terrain and setting, but also helps everyone better appreciate the revolutionary predecessors' fierce courage and spirit of fighting hard and regarding death with equanimity (视死如归的血性胆气)." The campus leadership explained that they are closely focused on the requirements for cultivating new-type artillery command personnel (新型炮兵指挥人才) under system-of-systems operational conditions (体系作战条件), and have actively coordinated with multiple military and civilian units to jointly open up several on-site instructional venues, building an on-site instruction network covering the major classic battle examples of the People's Army. In conjunction with the school's instructional plan, students are organized to carefully study battle history and battle examples during on-site instruction, to appreciate the spirit of their predecessors, and to be inspired to keep firmly in mind the goal of strengthening the military (强军目标), to solidify their conviction in strengthening the military (强军信念), and to dedicate themselves to the practice of strengthening the military (强军实践).
"In the past, studying joint operations knowledge meant sitting in a classroom listening to instructors explain theory and watching video materials. Now we stand on the battlefield where our predecessors once charged, reviewing combat experiences and conducting group combat simulation deductions (战斗模拟推演), and we feel deeply the hardships and wisdom of our predecessors." During discussion and exchange, student Ding Wanpu's remarks resonated widely. It is understood that the campus will further enrich the content and forms of on-site instruction, inspiring students to forge and strengthen their ability to fight and win (练强打赢本领) through the tempering of the soul and the strengthening of resolve (铸魂励志).
