In early July, a PLAN formation comprising the training ship Qi Jiguang and the Type 071 amphibious transport dock Kunlunshan will make a port call to Ho Chi Minh City at the Vietnamese Navy's invitation. The pairing is notable: Qi Jiguang routinely conducts goodwill and cadet voyages, but Kunlunshan is a frontline amphibious assault vessel, and its inclusion in a diplomatic visit to a country with which China has active South China Sea territorial disputes raises the question of whether Beijing is deliberately normalizing the presence of power-projection platforms in bilateral naval diplomacy with Vietnam.

In early July, at the invitation of the Vietnamese Navy, a naval vessel formation composed of the People's Liberation Army Navy ships Qi Jiguang and Kunlunshan will visit Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In recent years, the Chinese and Vietnamese navies have deepened cooperation in areas including vessel mutual visits and joint patrols, playing a positive role in enhancing mutual trust between the two countries and maintaining regional stability.
