In the honors room of the 3rd Company, a certain border defense regiment under the Changdu Military Sub-District of Tibet, a 'Company History Register' (《连史簿》) with a faded cover and worn corners rests quietly in a display case. Between its yellowed pages, the spiritual lineage and extraordinary journey of a heroic company—rooted in the snow-covered plateau and loyally guarding the border—is traced out.
The predecessor unit of this company was born in years of war and fire. During the War of Liberation, the company pushed into the Dabie Mountains and fought across the southwest, repeatedly winning merit. After the peaceful liberation of Tibet, on August 22, 1951, the company's officers and soldiers, led by the then-regimental commander Gao Jianxing, set out from Zhana Village on the Yunnan-Tibet border, scaling sheer cliffs, crossing frozen rivers, and sheltering in snow hollows. After forty days of arduous trekking, they finally arrived at the wind-swept, snow-bound frontier pass. As the bright Five-Starred Red Flag flew high over the garrison for the first time, this 'Company History Register,' bearing a unique mission, was solemnly inaugurated, recording the first glorious entry of the officers and soldiers' years guarding the border.
Time flows on; the company's history stretches forward. Row upon row of plain records are saturated with wholehearted loyalty: "March 25, 1954: Soldier Wang Yong braved wind and snow to escort a lost herdsman safely home……" "December 16, 1976: Soldier Li Jianguo walked back to the company on foot through raging wind and blizzard to report important reconnaissance intelligence……"
"Only by remembering history can one continue to write glory." This 'Company History Register,' steeped in the wind and snow of the frontier, has become a vivid teaching material for forging the company's soul and cultivating its people. When new soldiers join the company and new officers take up their posts, company leaders recount with deep feeling the perseverance and dedication written between its lines, guiding them to appreciate the glory, carry forward the spirit, and loyally guard the nation's frontiers.
The torch of the spirit illuminates the journey of strengthening the military. In recent years, the company's officers and soldiers have carried forward the red bloodline, remained committed to the struggle to strengthen the military, honed their edge on high-altitude exercise and training grounds, shouldered heavy responsibilities on the front lines of disaster relief and rescue, and successfully completed multiple major tasks. The company has successively been rated a "Model Company in Grassroots Development" (基层建设标兵连队) and an "Advanced Company in Grassroots Development" (基层建设先进连队), and has been awarded a collective second-class merit citation three times. At the beginning of this year, the company was honored with selection as a unit in the "12th National Batch of Demonstration Areas and Units for Ethnic Unity and Progress" (第12批全国民族团结进步示范区示范单位), adding yet another new distinction to the 'Company History Register.'
